United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women of FUMC Uvalde are a diverse group of dedicated women who freely give of their time and talents to promote mission work throughout the district, state, and world.

The Purpose of the United Methodist Women is the following:

"The organized unit of United Methodist women will be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."

The UMW meets nine times a year for Bible study and programs that are suggested by our conference. The studies this year include "Haiti" and "Joy to the World."

The general unit meets each fourth Thursday of the month from August - May. There is a brown bag lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by the program and business meeting beginning at noon.

The night circle - Circle of ConneXion - meets on the last Tuesday of each month throughout the year. Their fellowship begins at 7:00 p.m.

Craft days are held on the last Saturday of each month. Items made are sold at the annual fall bazaar and at the spring bazaar and bake sale.

Both groups celebrate the Christmas season with a party in December. The highlight of the evening is the Christmas ornament exchange!

The UMW Executive Committee for 2012-2013 includes the following individuals:

President - Susan Lovelace-Gerrish
Vice-President / Mission & Spiritual Growth - Jeanette Walther
Secretary - Eleanor Young
Treasurer - Gardys Johnson
Secretary of Program Resources/Education, Interpretation & Social Action - Barbara Tumlinson

One of the vital ministries of the UMW is to provide benevolence meals and receptions for families of members who have died. Shirley Grigg is the chairperson for this committee. She and the committee members graciously reach out to all those who are in need during this sorrowful time.
