Jesus Birthday Project
| The Jesus Birthday Project Challenge |
This year, our congregation is being challenged to participate in "The Jesus Birthday Project." Pastor Scott learned of such an outreach program from Pastor Mike Slaughter of Ginghamsburg UMC in Tipp City, Ohip, which is in the Dayton area. Pastor Slaughter raised the question about when did the "church" start becoming "just a place that you come to, rather than a body that goes out to the marginalized and hurting people of the world?"
The challenge is this: I am challenging you to change your thinking about Christmas and give to Jesus. For example, if you spend $200 on children, parents, and grandparents, etc., I challenge you to bring in an equal amount for the people in need in Uvalde.
One of the greatest times we see people in need is around the holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas. Food boxes may be purchased for $25/box. The initial plan is to take all of the monies that are received and make food boxes. The boxes will be filled will a Christmas meal - a ham or turkey and all the trimmings. On Sunday, December 11, the boxes will be assembled and taken into the community. We will need volunteers to help with the boxes!
We at Uvalde FUMC have the opportunity to make a difference for Jesus and for the people in Uvalde!
Happy Birthday, Jesus!
Our goal is to provide 300 boxes for the needy in Uvalde and a full Christmas to 10 families. $25 will purchase one box.
An Update . . .
Praise God! Through the generosity of our congregation, donations enable us to share 300 Christmas boxes with those in need in Uvalde. In addition, we purchased gifts for seven Uvalde families and donated money to the Bastrop Ministerial Alliance to help out victims of the fires. God is good!
